Since 1994 I haven’t had any commissions of trust within the Center Party. Back in those days I was rather active in the Center Party Youth Association.
After living abroad and after gaining deeper insights into the growing complexity of the world, I haven’t been able to convince myself of returning to party politics in Sweden. The political parties of Sweden seem to put restrictions to the debate, rather than encouraging it. The current, out-dated election system doesn’t help.
Anyhow, I decided to give the system a try this year, and handed in some motions to the district and national congresses of the Center Party. The experience was not a good one. Political correctness in combination with scarce resources on the regional level is supposed to keep the debate within the frames put forward by the leadership in Stockholm. And, how can it be that a political party that claims to give priority to democracy issues, fails to bring up this subject at its national congress due to ”lack of time”?
I ask myself what the Center Party really means with its talk about federalism. It’s been a few years now since the Center Party adopted the federal principles as a basis for its policies, but still it’s very unclear what it means in practice.
